Mat Yoga Classes

Hatha Gentle Flow Yoga:
Slower movements, simpler poses, and modifications are encouraged.  In Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga, “hatha” means physical movement breath, body, and mind.  This is a wonderful class for those who want a slower paced flow yoga.

Chakra Awareness Gentle Flow Yoga:

In many spiritual and healing disciplines, and in the world of complementary medicine, chakra awareness brings a sense of well-being.  The word “chakra” in the ancient yoga language of Sanksrit means “wheel” or “circle.”  It refers to the energy centers located along the spine throughout the body that connect to our spiritual nervous system.  The body contains seven chakras, or wheels.  Each wheel holds a specific level of awareness.  As the chakras open, your consciousness opens, and you become more connected to the energy of the universe and everything around you.  As you learn to become more self-aware, you may live more open-hearted and more empowered in your body.  Sometimes, chakras become blocked because of stress, emotional or physical.  In this yoga class we use gentle yoga postures, chakra crystal stones, and singing bowls to harmonize and help balance the mind and body.

Chi Gong Gentle Flow Yoga:

This class is a gentle blend of Chi Gong and Yoga.  Chi Gong (Qigong) originated over 5,000 years ago and is based on the principles used in traditional Chinese medicine.  Reflexology and acupressure healing points are also explored in this class.  Chi Gong restores the flow of energy in the body and helps us become aware of the flow of our own life force energy, or chi.  This practice is rooted in an understanding of Yin/Yang (slow/fast) and the “Five Elements” theory.  The Five Elements are a reflection of a person’s internal energy in relationship to nature (Wood, Water, Fire, Metal, and Earth).  The practice of Chi Gong seeks to adjust the body, breath, and mind into balance.  Chi Gong works toward resetting the body to neutral by releasing blockages in the energy flow.

Yin Yoga Bliss:
All stretches are sitting or lying down to calm and ground the mind and body.  Deep stretches are held for 3 to 5 minutes each, gently stretching connective tissues, leaving you in a wonderful state of bliss.  The energy represented in “yin” and “yang” is derived from the Chinese culture.    Each half of the black (yin) and white (yang) round symbol includes a small dot of the opposite color, showing that each must be part of the other to be whole.  Masculine and feminine energy are in all of us.  Our yin side (phoenix, feminine nurturing energy, moon) is at peace with how things are with a quiet acceptance, representing our bones and connective tissues.  Our yang side (dragon, masculine active thoughts, sun) is held in our skin and muscles.  Yang energy of motivation, striving, and comparing help us move forward in life.  But, this can make us feel overwhelmed and that we are never good enough. The Yin Phoenix and Yang Dragon are in love and must be together to have harmony and balance.  Take time to nurture the yin and yang inside yourself.

Aromatherapy Yoga:

Essential Oils are diffused throughout the room to enhance a unique yoga journey.  This is a total mind and body experience that incorporates even more of your senses.  Essential Oils are known for their uplifting, healing, and calming effects.

Vinyasa Yoga:

Enjoy a more physical and athletic yoga practice.  In Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga, “vinyasa” means to flow.  Link the breath and movement through the flow of yoga pose sequences.  Generally speaking, upward movements correlate with inhalations of the breath, and downward movements with exhalations.  Physically, movement expels toxins and re-energizes your body.  Mentally, the synchronized breathing relaxes your mind and helps to release any blockage of energy flow throughout your body.

Aerial Yoga Classes

Aerial Gentle Stretch:

Have you always wanted to try Aerial Yoga, but going upside down or climbing are not for you?  Then, you may want to try this more relaxing class.  Enjoy some gentle yoga poses that don’t go upside down.  Lay or sit softly in the luxurious fabric for full body stretches and relaxation.  Stretch your legs with one leg on the floor and the other in the fabric.  Melt away your daily stress.

Aerial Yoga:

Before the class begins, the aerial fabric height is custom positioned by the teacher to be at each student’s individual hip level height.  So, the fabric is never more than about 3 feet above the floor.  Inversions are always optional.  Variations will be shown for poses.  The fabric hammock is a wonderful prop, much like a strap or block, assisting in body alignment, opening awareness, deepening stretches, and creating spinal decompression.  When the spine is more open, pain may be reduced.  As the class moves along, students may choose to remain safely and comfortably in a pose they enjoy.  They may find it relaxing to simply lounge in the fabric, or just want to enjoy a certain stretch longer.  This is encouraged to fulfill each person’s aerial class experience.
